Positioned right in the heart of Scotland’s capital, the Cairncross House test facility easily serves construction candidates traveling from across Edinburgh, Leith, the Lothians, and surrounding areas.

Test Centre Information

From the Tram Stop at Picardy Place head in the direction of Leith Walk, after a few yards (opposite the Playhouse Theatre) take first left down Union Street. Cairncross House is located on the right-hand side near the foot of the hill.

There are 2 car parks both of which are a 5-minute walk from the Test Centre. They can both be accessed from Leith Street.  They are Q-Park Omni, Greenside Row, EH1 3AN and St James Quarter Car Park, St James Place, EH1 3BP. You exit both car parks by foot onto Picardy Place and follow the directions as above.

It is advisable to plan your journey in advance to ensure you arrive at the test centre in time for your test.

Full Disabled Access is available; wheelchair access via a ramp at righthand side of the main door. Buzzer can be found at the top of the ramp, please advise staff that you require access from the wheelchair access door.

Arrival & Security Protocol

• Strict 15-Minute Rule: You must arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete check-in procedures. Late arrivals will be turned away without a refund.

• No Visitor Access: The Edinburgh test center strictly prohibits non-candidates (family, colleagues, or children) from entering or waiting inside the facility.

• Locker Facilities: Small secure lockers are provided on-site for personal items. All personal belongings—including mobile phones, watches, bags, and revisions materials—must be stored away prior to entering the computer test room.

• Accepted Photo Identification: You cannot take your test without bringing a valid, original physical photo ID. Acceptable forms of ID include a valid UK Passport or Photocard Driving Licence. Digital copies, photos on phones, or expired IDs are strictly rejected.

• Parking Options: There are two main multi-storey car parks situated just a 5-minute walk from the test centre, both accessed easily from Leith Street: Q-Park Omni Centre (Greenside Row, EH1 3AN) and St James Quarter Car Park (St James Place, EH1 3BP). From either car park, exit on foot onto Picardy Place and follow the directions down Union Street.

Nearby Amenities (Pre-Test Revision & Waiting Spots)

Because guests are not permitted to wait inside the premises, early arrivals can grab a coffee or review notes at nearby cafes and shops around Picardy Place or the Omni Centre prior to check-in.
